Play equipment covers the units installed on their own, independently of a playground set: swings, seesaws, roundabouts, spring riders and climbing elements. The Park Misa catalogue holds 30 models. In tight spaces they replace a playground set; in larger areas they complement one. Each unit has its own safety area, and for moving equipment such as swings that area extends along the direction of travel.

Play equipment covers the standalone units placed independently of a playground set: swings, seesaws, carousels, spring riders and climbing elements. A play area is not only one large structure — these individual units raise its capacity and let it serve several age groups at once.
Their practical advantage is incremental growth. Where budget is tight, a playground set can be installed first and swings, carousels and spring riders added in later phases. Because each unit stands alone, later additions require no change to the main structure.
In layout, note that moving equipment behaves differently from static units. A swing’s safety area extends forwards and backwards along the swing path; a carousel’s extends all around. These units should not sit on a walking route or close to the exit of a slide.

How much clearance does a swing need?
A swing’s safety area is considerably larger than the unit itself because it extends forwards and backwards along the swing path. Keep swings away from walking routes and other units. Share your site plan and we will work out the layout with you.
What age are spring riders for?
Spring riders generally serve younger children, who need to be able to sit and balance unaided. Their small footprint and low cost make them a common way to complete a play area.
Can I add a single item to an existing play area?
Yes. Standalone units can be added later. The only condition is that the new unit’s safety area must not overlap that of neighbouring equipment.
Do these units also need rubber surfacing?
Any equipment with a fall height needs impact-absorbing surfacing beneath it. For low units such as spring riders the requirement is limited; for climbing units and swings it is essential.
