Large-Scale Playground Sets

The Status Dev Series holds the playground sets with the largest ground footprints in our catalogue — 12 models, each linking two or more towers with stairs, bridges and tube slides. Tower roofs, figured panels and an earth-toned palette bring the series close to wooded park settings. The structure is electrostatically powder-coated steel, with panels and slide bodies finished for outdoor conditions.

The series exists so that a single unit can anchor a park. A small set completes a garden; a structure at this scale defines the space itself, with paths, seating and lighting arranged around it. District parks, municipal recreation areas, waterfront schemes and the shared green space of large housing projects are its typical settings.

Across the models whose figures are published in the catalogue, drop heights run from 2 m to 3 m and peak heights from 5.50 m to 6.30 m. The installation footprint — the ground the unit occupies — runs from 65 m² to 124 m², while safety areas fall roughly between 120 m² and 230 m². These figures are published for nine of the twelve models; for the remaining three we send dimensions in writing at the survey and quotation stage.

Confusing those two area figures is the most frequent planning error in this series. The installation footprint is the rectangle the unit stands on; the safety area is the zone wrapping it on every side, in which nothing else may stand, and in practice it runs to about twice the footprint. On DEV 07 the footprint is 65 m² while the safety area measures 7.25 × 16.58 m, around 120 m². Judge whether your site is big enough from the second number.

On a tight site this scale simply will not work, and the clearance gets breached. Where less than 120 m² can be set aside, the Eco or Little Dreams series is the better answer; where the height should stay but the base must shrink, the Tower Series is. When a unit does not fit, the response is to reduce the scale, not to narrow the space around it.

Products at this scale should be handled as a project line rather than a purchase. Delivery may not arrive in a single load, assembly takes considerably longer than for a single-tower unit, and the area has to stay closed throughout. The surfacing line grows too: the impact-absorbing layer is selected for a 2–3 m drop height and laid across the entire safety area, so it is costed over 120–230 m². A completion date set without planning these two items will not hold.

The target users are children of six and over. A multi-station arrangement serves many children at once, which reduces queuing and jostling at the top of the slide in busy parks. Where pre-school children are also expected, a low-platform unit should be planned for them in a separate zone. Production falls within the scope of TS EN 1176, the standard for playground equipment.

Installation requires a concrete foundation and anchoring; because these are tall, heavily interconnected structures, post-installation inspection proceeds tower by tower. Maintenance keeps an eye on the interiors of enclosed tube slides, the tightness of bridge and platform connections, guardrails, and UV brittleness in panels.
