Themed Playground Sets

The Theme Series comprises 7 models that frame the play unit around a scenario. Ship decks, castle turrets and locomotives are supported by the parts that make the form legible — masts, ship's wheels, cannon barrels, chimneyed roofs. The frame is electrostatically powder-coated steel; theme panels are cut and printed surfaces that carry the shape. Where timber is used, surfaces are protected with water-based paint.

The theme is not decoration. Every playground set has a slide and something to climb; what a themed unit adds is a role for the child — captain, sentry, engine driver. Role play of this kind lasts longer and occupies more children at once, because parallel scenarios replace a single queue for the slide. In busy areas that has a practical effect: less waiting and less jostling at the top of the slide.

The series has a second function — giving a site an identity. A ship in a seaside park, a castle on a square within a historic quarter, a locomotive in a park near a railway station: each makes the area nameable. Hotel children's clubs, themed recreation grounds and shopping-centre gardens choose the series for this reason.

Dimensions vary considerably by model: drop heights of 150–200 cm, peak heights of 400–550 cm, and footprints between 500 × 700 cm and 1200 × 1000 cm. Safety areas run from 850 × 690 cm up to 1500 × 1300 cm — roughly 59 m² to 195 m². Given how wide that spread is, choosing the theme before measuring the site can mean going back to the start.

Plan around the safety area. TM 01 has a footprint of 1200 × 1000 cm, about 120 m², against a safety area of 1500 × 1300 cm, about 195 m². Themed units carry one extra detail: projections such as a ship's bow, a castle oriel or a locomotive chimney push the footprint out to the corners of the rectangle, so the sketch should record not only the unit's orientation but which way it overhangs.

Drop height sets the impact-absorbing surfacing requirement, and the covering must extend across the whole safety area. In themed projects the colour of the flooring often joins the scenario — blue poured rubber under a ship, for instance. That choice does not change surfacing performance; it simply forms part of selecting the application type. Themed or not, these units fall under TS EN 1176, the standard for playground equipment.

In maintenance, themed units differ from standard sets at one point: theme panels are large surfaces exposed to sun and impact, so UV fading and brittleness show up here earlier. Reviewing panels annually and replacing them individually where needed keeps the unit looking as intended. Otherwise a weekly visual check, monthly fixing checks and a seasonal surfacing review are enough. Tell us your dimensions and the theme you have in mind and we will identify a suitable model.
